Kurtz elected to Corporation

The MIT Corporation has announced the election of Ronald A. Kurtz, president of Kulite Tungsten Corporation of East Rutherford, NJ, as a term member. The announcement was made after the December 2 meeting of the Corporation.

Mr. Kurtz will complete the term of the late Donald J. Atwood, which runs until June 30, 1998. Mr. Atwood died April 24 at the age of 69.

Mr. Kurtz holds two SB degrees (industrial management, 1955; metallurgy, 1959) and the SM degree (metallurgy, 1960), all from MIT. He has been president of Kulite Tungsten since 1970. The company is a major producer and fabricator of tungsten alloys for use in the aerospace, medical, electronic and sporting goods industries. A Kulite division produces and distributes darts, dart boards and related equipment. Mr. Kurtz is also chairman of Winmau Dartboard Co., Haverhill, England, the major English manufacturer of dart boards, and president of Commerce Graphics Ltd., Inc., of New Jersey, a distributor of fine art photographs.

Mr. Kurtz has been a member of the MIT Council for the Arts since 1983 and was a member of the Educational Council from 1979 to 1987. He is a member of the Corporation Visiting Committee for the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.
