Campaign stands at 81 percent


As of last Friday, Jan. 6, MIT's United Way campaign had raised pledges of $259,600 from 1,359 donors, including 51 Leadership Givers donating at least $1,000 apiece. This puts the drive at 81 percent of its $322,000 goal. The December 15 bake sale, which included food donations by ARA Food Service and Rebecca's Cafe of Kendall Square as well as home-baked treats from MIT solicitors, raised $457.

By the end of last year's fund drive, 1,732 MIT and Lincoln Laboratory donors had pledged or contributed a total of $322,378, including 64 Leadership Givers.

Employee campaign manager Elizabeth Mulcahy has announced that the campaign will be extended to February 3 to allow participation by everyone who wishes to donate, including those who were away over the holidays.

There have also been prizes added for the donor raffle. First prize is a pair of Northwest Airlines round-trip tickets to anywhere in the continental United States, donated by Thomas Cook Travel and Northwest Airlines. Second prize is a night for two at the Inn at Harvard, while third prize is two $25 Harvard Coop gift certificates. Fourth prize is a $25 gift certificate to the Boston Sail Loft restaurant. Everyone who has given or pledged to the United Way is automatically entered in the raffle. Names of prize winners will be drawn and announced at a thank-you lunch for chief solicitors on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 11:30am in Twenty Chimneys.
