More community involvement for reengineering planned


With the aim of supporting and encouraging broader community understanding of and involvement in reengineering at MIT, the Community Involvement Team has added new members to take on a more active role.

The new members are: Sarah M. Carothers, assistant dean for development in the School of Science, , x3-3936; Darlene Messmer-Slagle, personnel administrator in the Department of Chemical Engineering, , x3-4563; Joanne Miller, assistant director of the News Office and editor of Tech Talk, , x3-2704, and John R. Squillante, administrative assistant in the Office of the Senior Vice President, , x3-9742.

They join Dr. Isaac M. Colbert, associate dean of the Graduate School, , x8-6186, captain of the Community Involvement Team, and William J. Hecht, executive vice president of the Alumni/ae Association, , x3-8204, the team sponsor. Rick Black, , 499-1113, is the Index support person for the team.

Beginning Monday, March 6, team will sponsor a series of informal brown-bag lunches. These BYO affairs will include a brief topical presentation, usually by a team captain, who will answer questions, followed by a chance for everyone to share concerns and for the presenters to get first-hand feedback on the projects their teams are pursuing.

First up will be the Community Involvement Team itself next Monday (March 6), noon-1pm and 1-2pm in the Bush Room (10-105).

"Since our team is still getting organized, our main hope is to find out from those attending what they need and want in the way of information," Dr. Colbert said. "The discussions will be helpful to the various teams in learning how to involve the community actively in upcoming labs and trials of new processes as the reengineering effort progresses."

Team captains, sponsors and as many members as possible will attend the brown-bag lunches. Others now scheduled include: Monday, March 13-Mail Team, Student Center Dining Room 1; Monday, March 20-TBA, Bush Room; Monday, March 27-TBA, Rm E25-119, and Monday, April 3-TBA, Student Center Dining Room 1. Teams expected to make presentations are Custodial Services, Supplier Consolidation and Academic and Staff Appointments.

All lunches are scheduled from noon-2pm so that everyone who is interested can drop by during lunch break. Since topics may change subject to the availability of team members, check the Community Meetings section of the Institute Calendar for the most up-to-date information.
