"Democracy in Cyberspace" subject of forum at MIT Oct. 30

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--The future of the electronic information superhighway, and the ethical issues it raises, will be the subject of a program on Monday, Oct. 30, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology sponsored by The Technology and Culture Forum at MIT and Emerson College.

The forum--"Democracy In Cyberspace: Engineering a Responsive and Ethical Internet"--will be held at 4pm in Room 6-120.

Speakers will be Mitchell Kapor, founder of Lotus Corp. and the Electronic Frontier Foundation; Karin Knoebelspies, media policy specialist, Green Party, German Parliament; and Coralee Whitcomb, founder of Virtually Wired.

According to the program announcement, it "will offer an opportunity to discuss issues such as democratic access, universal service, privacy protection, democratic policy making, reduction of the gap between the info-rich and the info-poor, and freedom to communicate."
