As one of three world premieres performed in a May concert by the Kronos Quartet in San Francisco, Associate Professor Evan Ziporyn's Eel Bone earned the highest praise from the San Francisco Chronicle. "For sheer beauty and excitement, the greatest rewards came from. [this] vigorous 12-minute ensemble toccata," wrote Chronicle music critic Joshua Kosman.

In January 1994, at Walker Memorial's Morss Hall, the MIT Gilbert & Sullivan Players premiered The Foundling, or A Basket of Ham, a full-length original Gilbert and Sullivan parody written by alumna Mary Finn '81 (libretto) and Bob Weingart (music). The play has now been discovered by the Valley Light Opera of Amherst, MA, who will present its second staging in spring 1997. "I can't wait to see what they do with it," said Ms. Finn. "With luck, this production may catch the interest of other groups, too."
