MIT's music-makers are venturing off campus this coming week:
On Saturday, Sept. 28, Lecturer Mark Harvey and the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra opens its 24th season with a celebration of William Billings' 250th birthday featuring the Aardvark Chorale, also known as the MIT Chamber Chorus. The program also includes the premiere of a new work by Mr. Harvey dedicated to Billings, works by Ives and Strayhorn, and tributes to John Coltrane, Gil Evans and John Cage. The 8pm concert will take place at the Harvard-Epworth Church in Cambridge. Admission is $8.
Professor Marcus Thompson on viola joins pianist Judith Gordon in a performance of Paul Hindemith's Sonatas for Viola and Piano and Viola d'Amore and Piano. The free New England Conservatory of Music Faculty Recital takes place on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 8pm at the recently refurbished Jordan Hall.
