CSF hoping for more donations

Throughout Cambridge, MIT students, staff and faculty are at work promoting educational opportunities for school children, assisting those who face homelessness, and working with local residents to improve the quality of life in our community.

Since 1968 the MIT Community Service Fund (CSF) has been a linchpin in the financial support for MIT volunteer intiatives. CSF is now nearing the final weeks of this year's campaign. Although many members of the MIT community have already made generous contributions, more contributions are very much needed.

The CSF Board of Trustees will meet in late May to appropriate funds to important projects such as Tutoring Plus, LINKS and City Days, Just-A -Start, Shelter Inc. and numerous others. Through LINKS, for example, more than 150 MIT undergraduates have spent countless hours in Cambridge elementary schools enhancing the teaching of science.

Last year, the CSF trustees could meet only 58 percent of the funding need. If every MIT employee had been able to give just one dollar a month, the Fund could have fulfilled all of the funding requests for these worthwhile programs.

Everyone is asked to take a moment to consider a donation to CSF. CSF overhead is minimal, primarily for printing costs connected with the spring campaign. Donations go directly to strengthening the commitment and energy of colleagues and friends who give so generously of their time, talent and good will to local causes.

Please send donations in any amount to the CSF, Rm 5-208, or call x3-1989 for further details.
