Luce Scholar applications invited

The Center for International Studies has set a November 15 deadline for applications to the Luce Scholars Program.

The Program, open to seniors, graduate students, recent alumni and junior faculty, places young scholars from many intellectual fields in 10-month internships throughout Asia. Past assignments have included an architect's office, a newspaper, a forestry project, a family planning center, a hospital and local government agencies. The program is aimed specifically at those with no prior experience in Asia.

Elizabeth Leeds, CIS executive director, said MIT is eligible to nominate two applicants this year. Nominees must be American citizens not yet 30 by September 1, 1997, who have earned at least a bachelor's degree or expect to receive one by that date, and who are in good physical condition and emotional health. She emphasized that MIT faculty members are urged to nominate former students with records of outstanding achievements.

Application forms may be picked up at the CIS, Rm E38-651. For more information, contact Dr. Leeds at x3-9861 or , or Laurie Scheffler at x3-3121 or .

The Luce Foundation, which funds the program, was established in 1936 by the late Henry Luce, co-founder and editor-in-chief of Time, Inc., as a tribute to his missionary parents.
