Physics gathering (caption)

At last week's National Conference of Black Physics Students held at MIT, keynote speaker Shirley A. Jackson (SB '68, PhD '73), chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, chats with physics graduate students Manyalibo J. Matthews (organizer of the event), Kimani A. Stancil and Sandra D. Brown, as well as Alison Morgan and (far right) Dr. Cynthia McIntyre, MIT PhD '90 and Commonwealth Professor at George Mason University, who founded the conference 11 years ago. In her speech, Dr. Jackson discussed her career in physics since she became the first African-American woman to receive a doctorate from MIT.
