Retiree talk focuses on food

Eating to stay healthy and feel good will be the focus of a seminar for retirees on Thursday, May 15 at 11am when Dr. Christina Economos returns to discuss "Fabulous Foods for Modern Times." The program will begin at 11am in Bartos Theater in the Wiesner Building. Refreshments will be served in advance (but alas, the program does not include samples).

"People's dietary needs change over their lifetime, so choosing the right things to eat is very important to feeling good," Dr. Economos said. "I will discuss recent research into how older people can adapt their diet both to promote good health and minimize the risk of chronic disease."

A graduate of Boston University, Dr. Economos received the master's degree in applied physiology and nutrition from Columbia University and the PhD from the Tufts University School of Nutrition. She is the director of the osteoporosis awareness program of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Earlier this year, Dr. Economos presented a program on the benefits of strength training for older citizens. Her food presentation will be the final seminar in a series on healthful living arranged by the Association of MIT Retirees with assistance by the Medical Department's Health Education Service.

Parking for the seminar will be available in the CRA lot at Broadway and Ames St. (enter from Ames off Broadway).
