Mechanical engineering bestows awards on 25

The following awards were presented by the Department of Mechanical Engineering at its annual awards luncheon.

The Mechanical Engineering Department Service Award went to Eberhard Bamberg, a graduate student from Gaildorf, Germany, and Benjamin M. Linder, a graduate student from Cambridge, MA.

Benjamin Davis, a junior from Wayne, ME, and Turner Howard, a junior from Hudson, WI, each received an Amoco Foundation Scholarship.

Jason Nogueira, a senior from Cumberland, RI, and Sigfrido Delgado, a senior from San Juan, Puerto Rico, received the Reinhold Rudenberg Memorial Prize for an outstanding undergraduate thesis relating to energy conversion. Charles F. Tam, a senior from Hong Kong, was awarded the Peter Griffith Prize for an outstanding undergraduate experimental project.

Christopher J. Bruce, a senior from Ketchikan, AK; Troy C. Thorson, a senior from Onalaska, WI; and Nicholas Hirschi, a senior from Mt. Pleasant, MI, won Luis De Florez Awards for outstanding ingenuity and creativity in design.

The AMP Inc. Award for Outstanding Performance in 2.002 (Mechanics and Materials II) was given to Angela C. Butts, a sophomore from Londonville, OH; Caesar Bugarin, a sophomore from Medford, OR; Fritz Pierre, a sophomore from Nyack, NY; Eric R. Wade, a sophomore from Tulsa, OK; and Evelyn N. Wang, a sophomore from Santa Monica, CA.

The Whitelaw Prize for outstanding design and construction of a device for the contest in 2.007 (Design and Manufacturing I) was awarded to Alexander D. Sprunt, a sophomore from Farmers Branch, TX, and Michael V. Jakuba, a sophomore from West Hartford, CT.

Wunsch Foundation Silent Hoist and Crane Awards for outstanding performance in an undergraduate thesis or project relating to materials handling were presented to Lauren M. Aquino, a senior from Huntington Beach, CA; Sami S. Busch, a senior from Maulburg, Germany; James K. Lee, a senior from Castro Valley, CA; Hector Padilla, a senior from El Paso, TX; Kyrilian G. Dyer, a sophomore from Hillsdale, NY; Peggy J. Hollerman, a sophomore from Carlos, MN; Peter H. How, a sophomore from Mililani Town, HI; and Mr. Wade.
