The MIT Caribbean Club will host the seventh annual Northeast Region Caribbean Student Conference (NeRCSC) on April 2-4. This year's conference theme is "Regional Integration: Economic Salvation in the 21st Century?"
The conference aims to increase awareness of emerging issues facing the Caribbean, identify avenues through which participants can contribute to regional development and encourage them to take advantage of these opportunities. Nine workshops will challenge participants to think about the economic and infrastructure requirements of an integrated Caribbean while keeping in mind the cultural and environmental challenges and opportunities that exist.
Edwin Carrington, the Secretary General of the Caribbean Common Market, will be the keynote speaker. Industry leaders and government officials from the region, academics from MIT and other institutions, and MIT alumni/ae have also been invited to participate in the workshops. The MIT Caribbean Club helps promote Caribbean culture at MIT and serves as a resource to the wider community for information on the Caribbean. Speakers at club events have included West Indian ministers, professors, entrepreneurs and entertainers.
