Teachers, students urged to discuss education process

Dean of Students and Undergraduate Education Rosalind H. Williams urges all teachers and students to celebrate MacVicar Day by discussing pedagogy and the education process/experience at MIT during classes on February 4.

Noting that the MacVicar Fellows ponder these issues at regular meetings throughout the year, Dean Williams invited the community to broaden the discussion. She asked MIT teachers to allocate 10 minutes of class time to discuss "the teaching process, your goals, your methods and your challenges." She requested teachers to solicit student feedback and share it with the community during MacVicar Day activities.

"We would also like to hear directly from students about what they think constitutes good learning: how they feel they learn a subject, how they apply what they have learned to other subjects, and how they define their own learning strategies and style," Dean Williams said.

Those unable to attend MacVicar Day may share feedback from the classroom discussions with Dean Williams by clicking on "E-mail comments" at the bottom of the MacVicar Fellows home page.
