Brain and cognitive science awards presented to students

The Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences (BCS) recognized the achievements of numerous students.

GRADUATE STUDENTS

Angus MacDonald Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching went to Amy Pooler of Wiscasset, Maine; Ned Sahin of Boston; Rebecca Saxe of Toronto; Tania Ionin of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and Yuri Ostrovsky of Swampscott.

The Walle Nauta Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching was presented to Mark Histed of Archbald, Penn. BCS Awards for Continuing Dedication to Teaching went to Rutledge Ellis-Behnke of Canton; Elizabeth A. Kensinger of Kansas City, Mo.; and Duane Watson of Las Vegas.

UNDERGRADUATES

The Hans-Lukas Teuber Award for Outstanding Research in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences was awarded to Benjamin J. Balas , a BCS senior from Monroeville, Penn. The Walle J.H. Nauta Award for Outstanding Research in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences was awarded to BCS senior Payal Kohli of Aurora, Colo.

Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences Awards for Outstanding Scholarship were given to seniors Sanjay Basu of Lisle, Ill.; Vinod Rao of Monroeville, Penn.; Hillary Rolls of Harrisonville, Md.; Brian Theisen of Wilmington, N.C.; and Urvashi Upadhyay of Concord. The Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences Award for Outstanding Scholarship and BCS Contributions went to Jennifer Shieh of Rowland Heights, Calif.

Several undergraduates received honorable mentions:

Excellence in Research--senior Janice Chen of Fairbanks, Alaska, and juniors Elizabeth Rouse of Chicago and Andrew Yip of London.

Excellent Academic Record--seniors Sudeb Dalai of Nevada, Mo.; Julia deKadt of Durban, South Africa; Lianne Habinek of Rochester, Minn.; Monica Linden of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Sondra Miles of Acton, Calif.; and juniors Vikash Gilja of Manhasset, N.Y.; Danielle Gues of Upper Dublin, Penn.; Naomi Schmelzer of Melville, N.Y.; and Sandy Zhang of Salt Lake City.
