MIT reaches campaign goal two years early


At last Friday's meeting of the MIT Corporation, President Charles M. Vest announced that a generous gift of trustee A. Neil Pappalardo (S.B. 1964) has put MIT over its $1.5 billion campaign goal. This achievement comes two years earlier than the date originally set for the conclusion of the campaign.

At the meeting, campaign chair Raymond S. Stata (S.B. 1957) proposed that the Corporation approve an increase in the campaign goal to $2 billion, which was met with the unanimous endorsement of the trustees.

Vest said this increase will be targeted toward the campaign's original priorities, with a special emphasis on student life and learning, graduate and undergraduate student support, and capital construction.

"While the increased goal may take us a few more months to achieve," he said, "it is critically important that we sustain the momentum of this campaign, which has been made possible by the remarkable generosity of alumni and alumnae and friends of MIT as well as corporate and foundation donors."
