Campus construction update

Amherst Alley

Several manholes on the west side of campus will be involved in steam line repairs. Welding, cutting and excavation for expansion joint replacement may cause noise and disruption.

Baker House

Barriers have been set up in conjunction with window replacement in Baker House. Grinding mortar joints in preparation for repointing will create noise.

Building 3

The top four feet of the masonry wall on the west side of Building 3 will be repointed to repair damaged joints. Work will take approximately five weeks to complete.

Building 54

Four cracked windows on the ground floor of Building 54 are being replaced. The work will take approximately five weeks.

Chemistry Building

Continuing demolition of the mechanical shaft on the south side will cause a good deal of noise.

Hayden Library

Work is underway to move and reshape the circulation area, which will expand to include the Reserve Book Room collection and services as well as a 24/7study space. During renovations, which will run through late August, entrance to the Science and Humanities Libraries will be through the Lewis Music Library.

Media Lab Expansion

Underground piping to the Media Lab expansion will come from Building 66 and progress south down Ames Street between Building 64 and the sidewalk. This will affect pedestrian and vehicular traffic, but police details will be on hand ensure public safety. Parking on Ames Street will be eliminated until work is complete. The shrubs at the curb will be removed during the project and replaced afterwards, while the trees and plantings close to the building will be tied back and protected by chain-link fencing.

70 Pacific St.

Final finishes are being installed and final cleaning is underway. All building systems are either up and running or in their final testing phases.

Simmons Hall

Installation of life safety systems is underway.

Stata Center

Installation of exposed pipes is ongoing on levels P2, P1, the basement, and levels 1 and 2. Interior underground masonry, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection work are ongoing.

Vassar Street Utilities

Steam piping is progressing from the Stata site north across Vassar Street toward the future Brain and Cognitive Sciences Center site.

Zesiger Center

A temporary entrance to duPont Gym is now located at Building W31 (Campus Police) on Massachusetts Avenue. There are also two entrances on Vassar Street: near the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Vassar Street, and via the alley between Rockwell Cage and duPont. These are currently the only entrances to duPont.
