Campus construction update

VASSAR STREET

The south side of Vassar Street is scheduled for repaving from Massachusetts Avenue to the west side of the Stata Center site on Saturday, Nov. 9. Traffic will not be allowed to enter the main campus from the entrances at buildings 35 and 39 all day; vehicles must enter from the northbound lane on Massachusetts Avenue to Building 9. Traffic will still be allowed westbound from Main Street to Massachusetts Avenue on Saturday. Vassar Street will remain one-way heading west from Main Street to Massachusetts Avenue until June. Relocation of the chilled water line for Building 36 also is in progress; no disruption in service is anticipated.

CHEMISTRY BUILDING

To allow relocation of subbasement pipes, chilled water will be shut off to Building 18 at 6 a.m. on Nov. 12; service will be restored on Dec. 13. Repair work on the east concrete facade is almost done. Installation continues on mechanical systems and on exterior metal panels to the roof penthouse.

AMHERST ALLEY

Work begins this week on a new manhole near the east corner of McCormick Hall and on asbestos abatement. The two projects are expected to take about a week. A condensate return line will be repaired at the east and west ends of Building W4. Four parking spaces will be left open for construction vehicles while work is in progress.

STATA CENTER

Construction of tunnel connection from Stata Center to Building 26 will begin shortly. Temporary building enclosures are being installed in preparation for inclement weather. Installation of the below-grade supports for the exterior stairs leading to the raised garden continues.

SIMMONS HALL

Some parking in the front of the building will open up as work continues on the dining areas on the first floor and other areas.
