Automobile window etching offered

The Police at MIT in conjunction with the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force will be conducting an auto window etching program for members of the MIT community on Wednesday, May 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The program will chemically etch the owner's vehicle identification number (VIN) into each piece of glass on the car, making it more difficult for professional car thieves to sell the parts to dishonest repair and body shops.

There is a $10 cash fee for the service to cover equipment costs. Motorists who do not already have an anti-theft device on their vehicle may be able to recoup this cost and more through the 15% anti-theft discount allowed on most comprehensive auto insurance policies.

The window etching program will be held next to Simmons Hall, 229 Vassar St. Motorists should bring their vehicle, the vehicle's registration and $10 cash.

This program will be canceled if raining.
