Technology Children's Center at Stata prepares for June 1 opening

There will be information sessions and an admission lottery in preparation for the scheduled June 1 opening of MIT's newest child care center in the Ray and Maria Stata Center for Computer, Information and Intelligence Sciences. This is also the enrollment period for scholarships to any of MIT's child care centers.

The Technology Children's Center at Stata joins three others at MIT--the Technology Children's Centers at Eastgate and Westgate, and the Lincoln Laboratory Children's Center. All are managed by the Center for Work, Family and Personal Life in partnership with Bright Horizons/Family Solutions and offer a diverse, developmentally based and culturally respectful learning environment for children in the MIT community.

Information sessions on TCC-Stata will be held Thursday, Feb. 26 and Monday, March 8 from noon to 1:30 pm. Preregistration is required; register online at http://web.mit.edu/hr/worklife/seminar.html or contact the Center for Work, Family and Personal Life (Room 16-151, worklife@mit.edu, 253-1592).

A lottery will be held to ensure a fair and efficient process for managing initial enrollment and to establish a waiting list for future enrollment. Priority will be given to members of the MIT community. Applications for the lottery are being accepted now through March 19 at 5 p.m., and entries will be drawn starting April 5. For lottery purposes, all applications received before the deadline will be treated on an equal basis, regardless of application date.

Applications for MIT's Child Care Scholarship Programs will also be accepted during the same period. A limited number of scholarships are available to eligible employees, graduate students, postdoctoral associates and postdoctoral fellows whose children are enrolled at MIT's child care centers. Those who would like to be considered for scholarship awards for the new Stata child care center should apply now, as should those interested in scholarships for other MIT centers for summer 2004 and/or the 2004-05 academic year. See http://web.mit.edu/hr/worklife/scholarship.html for more information and applications.

Applications and more information on enrolling in any of MIT's child care centers may be found at the new TCC web site http://web.mit.edu/mitchildcare.

For questions on the lottery, scholarship programs, transferring between centers and other related matters, contact Mary McNally, administrator of child care initiatives, at mtmcnall@mit.edu or 324-0191. Materials and consultations on child care options and child development may be found at the Center for Work, Family and Personal Life.
