It's time to renew your MIT personal certificates

Certificates obtained in the past year are set to expire on July 30, 2010.

MIT's personal web certificates will soon require renewal. Certificates obtained in the past year are set to expire on July 30, 2010. Beginning this year, the certificate renewal process has been streamlined to include a more informative web interface and a new tool (CertAid 2.0) for Macintosh Safari users.

Renewal of personal Web certificates is not automatic. To ensure continued access to MIT's secure web applications, such as Benefits, SAPweb, WebSIS, and COEUS Lite, plan to renew in the coming weeks. You will need to renew your personal web certificate before July 30 in order to access ePaystubs in SAPweb Employee Self Service. ePaystubs will replace paper paystubs as of the July 30 pay date for all faculty, students, and staff (excluding union employees).

Browser Recommendations
Before you renew your certificate, check to see that your browser is up to date. With help from web site maintainers across MIT, IS&T has developed a set of browser recommendations. These recommendations help simplify IT support by providing a consistent set of standards. It is important that the web browser version be current with the operating system and that all critical web browser patches are current.

The following browsers are recommended for the upcoming fiscal year.

For Windows 7, Vista Enterprise, and Windows XP SP3:
Internet Explorer (IE) 7 or 8, or Firefox 3.6 or later
Note: IS&T recommends that 64-bit machines run the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer.

For Macintosh OS X 10.5.x or 10.6.x:
Safari 4 or later or Firefox 3.6 or later

For Linux:
Firefox
Note: To ensure that you have the latest version of Firefox, consult your operating system's documentation for performing a security update. Athena workstations normally receive these updates automatically.

For Mobile Devices:

• iPhone 3.0 or later – Safari
• Windows Mobile 5 and 6 – Internet Explorer

Instructions
You can acquire your new personal certificate now. For installation instructions, see the Certificate Help Wizard. Complete documentation is available on the Certificates at MIT page.

If, after installing your new certificate, you experience problems accessing certificate-protected sites, you may want to try deleting your expired certificates. Do not delete an expired certificate if you have used it to sign or receive encrypted email. For more information on what to do in that case, see the Export or Back Up Your MIT Personal Certificates page.

If you use certificates on multiple machines, you will need to get a new certificate for each browser on each machine.
