Four from MIT selected as 2011 ACS fellows

The ACS Fellows Oversight Committee and the ACS Board of Directors have selected four MIT professors to the distinguished 2011 class of fellows of the American Chemical Society.

The new MIT fellows are Peter Dedon, professor of toxicology and biological engineering; Robert Langer, the David H. Koch Institute Professor; Stephen J. Lippard, the Arthur Amos Noyes Professor of Chemistry; and Steven R. Tannenbaum, the Underwood-Prescott Professor of Chemistry and Toxicology. Tannenbaum is also on the faculty of the Department of Biological Engineering.

The ACS Fellows Program was created by the ACS Board of Directors in 2008 “to recognize members of ACS for outstanding achievements in and contributions to Science, the Profession, and the Society.”

Dedon, Langer, Lippard and Tannenbaum will be recognized at an induction ceremony on Aug. 29 during the society’s 242nd National Meeting & Exposition in Denver. 

Dietmar Seyferth, Robert T Haslam and Bradley Dewey Professor of Chemistry, emeritus, was selected to the inaugural class of 2009.
