Junior Ethan Peterson and Senior Tyler Wagner

Senior defensive end Tyler Wagner (Bel Air, Md.) and junior offensive lineman Ethan Peterson (Rutland, Vt.) earned national recognition for their athletic and academic accomplishments when both were named to the second team of the Capital One 2011 Academic All-America Division III Football Team.

Wagner was a National Football Foundation 2011 Scholar-Athlete nominee and was the recipient of the 2011 New England Football Conference Hal Chalmers Scholar-Athlete Award. He finished the 2011 season second on squad among defensive linemen with 32 tackles and was tied for third on the team in tackles for loss with a career best 4.0. Selected as a Paul E. Gray researcher at MIT, he received funding for MIT’s International Genetically Engineered Machines competition team that placed first in the health and medicine track and fourth overall out of 160 teams.

A three-year starter on the offensive line, Peterson was a first team All-NEFC pick in 2011, his second all-conference honor. An academic All-NEFC selection in 2010, he has played in every game during his MIT career and helped clear the way for a 2011 rushing attack that increased its output by more than 30 percent from a year ago and produced the NEFC Boyd Division Offensive Rookie of the Year in freshman Justin Wallace (Palatine, Ill.).
