Bilong, Lopes-Smith named MIT's 2011 YMCA Achievers

The YMCA Achievers program brings together professionals from the Greater Boston community to serve as role models and mentors by providing community service to YMCA’s youth programs. This year's YMCA Achievers from MIT are Elza Bilong, from the Office of the Vice President for Finance, and Doreen Lopes-Smith, from Resource Development.

The YMCA Achievers program is dedicated to helping all urban youth reach their fullest potential. Many of Boston's youth graduate high school and are left to navigate the college process by themselves.  From College Path to the Summer Institute, the Achievers program provides educational enrichment opportunities to prepare for college and career. The Achievers Program is part of the YMCA of Greater Boston, the largest provider of social services in Massachusetts. For the past 36 years, MIT has been a sponsor of the Achievers Program by supporting the community service work of the awardees.
