The MIT Forum for Supply Chain Innovation has announced that William Ruh, vice president and global technology director of GE, will deliver the keynote at its spring conference, Achieving Competitive Advantage Through Data Science and Analytics on April 20 and 21 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The conference is co-sponsored by the Accenture and MIT Alliance in Business Analytics and will focus on how analytics and data-science techniques can help companies transform their current business models and achieve a competitive advantage. Alliance research projects will also be showcased at a research poster session on April 20.

Ruh’s keynote, “The INDUSTRIAL Internet of Things: Powering the Application Economy Using Data Science and Analytics,” will explore the notion of the “Industrial Internet,” emerging waves of industrial-strength innovation and technology, opportunities for big gains in productivity, and efficiency from reducing unplanned downtime.

MIT Professor David Simchi-Levi, founder of the MIT Forum and co-chair of the Accenture and MIT Alliance, says, “We are very pleased to have GE support our conference and to have William Ruh deliver our keynote and provide his perspective on the impact of sensor technology, data, and analytics on industry. The Forum is also pleased to host a research poster session to share research insights and outcomes, providing practical examples on how data science techniques and analytics can have significant positive impact across many industries.”

Narendra Mulani, senior managing director at Accenture Analytics and co-chair of the Accenture and MIT Alliance, says, “As data continue to grow through the expanding Industrial Internet of Things, it is exciting to witness and explore the innovative data-driven possibilities that exist for companies in all industries and around the globe. We are looking forward to hearing William Ruh’s views at the upcoming MIT Forum on the Industrial Internet and how it can generate a competitive advantage for businesses.”

The forum has pioneered a deeper understanding of the supply chain and its relationship to corporate strategy and has broad support from a wide cross-section of industry.
